Copyediting offers the author with a clear, grammatically accurate manuscript.

What will the author receive? 

The author will receive a marked-up draft of their manuscript with edits and comments focusing on grammar, sentence structure, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and hyphenation.  A style sheet notating editorial decisions will be provided.  (The Chicago Manual of Style is the preferred style guide.)  One hour of follow-up communication (via email, phone, or Zoom) is also included.

What is not included?  

Story level challenges will not be addressed.

What should the author do before hiring a Copyeditor?

The author should have completed and edited the story to the best of their ability before hiring a Copyeditor.  A prior Developmental Edit and Line Edit is recommended but not necessary.

Can the author obtain a free sample of the Copyedit? 

Yes.  A sample up to 1000 words can be provided upon request.

Will the editor be brutally honest? 

Yes and no.  The editor will be honest but constructive.  There’s nothing brutal about it!  Every story has its strengths and weaknesses.  Feedback will be given on both in a kind, positive manner.

How long does the Copyedit take? 

It depends on the length of the book.  A typical turnaround time is anywhere from four to six weeks.  A quick turnaround can be requested for an additional cost.

What format works best for a Copyedit? 

The manuscript must be provided in MS Word.

Can a previously created style sheet be used? 

Yes.  Provide the previously created style sheet to the editor before work begins.  This is especially beneficial when working on a manuscript that is one in a series.

How much will this cost?
